Why Taking Time for Couple Portraits on Your Wedding Day Matters

Recently, I had the chance to photograph a beautiful wedding here in Devon. While I’m not sharing the full day, I wanted to focus on something I believe is one of the most important parts of any wedding or elopement — the time you take for just the two of you.

This couple’s portrait session had a clear Italian-inspired style. Think simple, stylish outfits, natural surroundings, and a relaxed feel that made everything look effortlessly timeless. Even though we were right here in Devon, it had the vibe of a slow afternoon somewhere in Tuscany.

Taking time for portraits like these on your wedding day is so worth it. It’s often one of the only chances you’ll get to step away, breathe, and just enjoy being together without distractions. Whether you’re planning a big celebration or a small elopement, setting aside even half an hour for couple photos can make a huge difference.

The best part? You don’t need to overthink it. You don’t need to be models or know how to pose. It’s about keeping things simple and natural — walking together, talking, laughing, being yourselves. That’s when the real, honest moments happen.

If you’re planning your wedding or elopement, I always encourage making space for this kind of time. Your couple portraits aren’t just photos — they’ll be some of the memories you hold onto the longest.

If you’d like to chat about how we can build space for relaxed, meaningful portraits into your day, I'd love to hear from you.
