From Digitals to Editorial: What Style of Model Shoot is Right for You?

What Type of Modelling Images Do You Really Need?

Depending on where you are in your modelling journey, your image needs will look a little different—and that’s completely normal.

If you’re just starting out, or applying to agencies, digitals (also known as Model Polaroids) are essential. These are clean, minimal images with no makeup, no retouching, and no distractions. Their purpose is to show exactly what you look like right now. Agencies rely on digitals to see your natural features, proportions, and potential.

Once you’ve got your digitals sorted, it’s time to start building your portfolio with test shoots. These are more styled than digitals, but still quite simple and natural. The goal here is to show your versatility in front of the camera—different expressions, angles, and energy. Test shoots are a great way to gain experience and show agencies or clients what you can bring to a variety of looks.

Then there’s editorial work. These shoots are more creative, fashion-forward, and styled. They’re the kind of images you’d see in magazines or campaign work. Editorial images bring personality and storytelling into your portfolio and are great for more established models or those exploring a specific aesthetic.

I offer digitals and editorial for portfolio building—depending on your goals and where you’re at in your journey.

Not sure what you need? That’s okay. I’m here to guide you through it, with a tailored approach that supports your growth and showcases your potential.
